The Lord's Chosen Servant
Wednesday
The Lord’s Chosen Servant
“I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations.”
Isaiah 42:6
The Bible doesn’t mention what Jesus does on Wednesday. It is a silent day. In light of this, I would encourage you to find time today to spend in solitude with God. Give Him space and time to speak to you as He sees fit. I would even be so bold as to encourage you to fast today. I’ve found that fasting is a time to deny myself so that I can realign my heart with God’s. I can say no to my fleshly desires in order to be filled with Him. It gives me the opportunity to see that He can satisfy me, and fill me in a way that nothing in this world can. If you choose to forgo the fasting, I still would challenge you to spend time reading Psalm 51. This is a Psalm of confession. Let today be a time of confession, and setting your heart, mind, and soul on Him as we prepare for Easter.
Isaiah 42 is a prophecy spoken about Jesus. I have included a portion of Isaiah 42 below. As you read the words, consider what it says about Jesus. How does He fulfill this prophecy?
“Look at my servant, who I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instructions. God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth. And it is he who says, ‘I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations. You will open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons.’”
Isaiah 42:1-7
Please take some time to make space for Him today, and to linger in His presence. I have found that when we show up, He is always faithful to meet us there.
